Forward Motion?
Forward Motion is a community for writers created and maintained by Holly Lisle. It's a great place to meet other writers or aspiring writers like me. I think I lurk there, only sometimes posting, since the beginning (Changed my user name during one move of servers). I don't think I know a better place to learn about the craft of writing. The workshops, the ezine
Vision, the daily writing exercises are simply great.
However, it is also a place to discuss and debate and not every topic is restricted to writing. I only point to the Rant Board.
I think it was the so-called War Debate that led to first big policing of free speech - forbidding the topic - exceeding the No Flames! rule. As understandable as I found it it made me also sad because it made the community poorer. Since then - not that I ever participated much, I'm a lurker - I made it my principle to focus on the writing related stuff posted there and mostly ignore everything else. Writing is the main concern of the site after all. Still I hear every half year or so that someone leaves the FM in a ruckus or is banned. And with someone I mean a prominent, very involved key member.
Seems, there was recently such an occurrence and when I read the posts of the people involved in that I wonder what's going on.
Some people lost their moderator status, one ex mod got banned and
robertsloan2 resigned as moderator. Now I am reading board posts and journal entries to piece things together: Here is the full thread at FM including the chat transcript, here is the letter mentioned and here is Robert's lj entry.
